The second installment in a series of screenings that Vernacular Visions* will be doing as part of a 3 month residency at the Center for New Music (September – November), co-curated by Justin Rhody and Tania Chen.
At each performance a 35mm slideshow of found photographs will be projected while two small groupings of musical improvisers (from both Oakland and San Francisco) interpret & accompany the images with a live soundtrack. At the end of the night there will be a collaborative set between all of the musicians (who have never performed together prior and most likely do not even know each other).
1st set of the night:
Jacob Heule – percussion
Aprille Tang – electronics
Lisa Mezzacappa – double bass
Tania Chen – piano, objects
2nd set of the night:
Frankie – electronics
Will – electronics
Vanessa Harris – guitar, percussion
Adam Keith – electronics, guitar
Final set of the night:

*VERNACULAR VISIONS is a curated collection of found color photo slides presented by Justin Clifford Rhody via 35mm projections, which are accompanied by an audio mix of related (and unrelated) sounds & musics. Every other month, half of the nights program is dedicated to presenting the work of a local photographer or filmmaker. This ongoing series is an exploration and celebration of the medium and it’s subjects, spoken and coded in the visual dialect of the amateur practitioner. The show is presented in a relaxed environment that offers the opportunity of meditative contemplation, as well as casual and comfortable social interaction.
