The first installment in a series of screenings that Vernacular Visions* will be presenting at the Center for New Music (September through November).
At each performance a 35mm slideshow of found photographs will be projected while two small groupings of musical improvisors (from both Oakland and San Francisco) interpret & accompany the images with a live soundtrack. At the end of the night there will be a collaborative set between all of the musicians (who, most likely, do not even know each other and have never performed together prior).
1st set of the night:
Corey Hucks – modular synthesizer
Jack Head – electronics
2nd set of the night:
Tania Chen – electronics, keyboard
Jon Leidecker – electronics
Final set of the night:
Corey Hucks – modular synthesizer
Tania Chen – electronics, keyboard
Jon Leidecker – electronics
Jack Head – electronics
*VERNACULAR VISIONS is a curated collection of found color photo slides presented by Justin Clifford Rhody via 35mm projections, which are accompanied by an audio mix of related (and unrelated) sounds & musics. This ongoing series is an exploration and celebration of the medium and it’s subjects, spoken and coded in the visual dialect of the amateur practitioner. The show is presented in a relaxed environment that offers the opportunity of meditative contemplation, as well as casual and comfortable social interaction.
