The unaccompanied piece: a genre that places great demands on both the composer and the performer to express the totality of a musical idea through a single instrument. By any measure, it is music operating without a net. So often, such pieces are relegated to solo recitals or overlooked on programs featuring works for larger ensembles.
Curated by composer Brien Henderson, this concert features a series of 20th- and 21st-Century works for unaccompanied performers of various instruments, including a world premiere.
