Timothy Johnson will perform his original compositions for solo piano. The works include pieces from his last album, A Guide to Misinterpreting the Past, as well as new unreleased material.
His compositional style is a mix of impressionism and minimalism combined with American harmonies and structure. He started out by experimenting with the concept of writing in a style that relies on patterns or combinations of patterns that move around the keyboard – overlapping the hands and altering the chords to create movement and texture. His unique approach to composition sets out to write without conscience of meter, key, or tonality – focusing more on geometric shapes, lines, and patterns.
