Join in a celebration of the Bay Area’s thriving instrument inventor community! All proceeds benefit the Window Gallery at the Center for New Music.
The third annual SOUNDSMITHS, presented by Center for New Music, offers an opportunity to meet the designers, builders, composers, and performers of the Bay Area’s thriving community of instrument invention, and to take home artifacts, published materials, and one-of-a-kind instruments from these innovators!
The celebration begins July 17 with the launch the SOUNDSMITHS ONLINE AUCTION. Music fans can bid on an array of books, CDs, limited edition prints, handwritten scores, and original invented instruments. Contributions to the effort have come from throughout the community, including distinguished artists Bart Hopkin, Tom Nunn, Jon Raskin, and Daniel Schmidt, partnering institutions such as the Museum of Imaginary Musical Instruments, and emerging artists Taylor Chan, David Samas, and more.
Visit centerfornewmusic.com/soundsmiths-auction to view items and place bids! The auction closes on August 27 at 7 PM; winners can receive their items at the Closing Party, or make separate arrangements.
All proceeds support the Window Gallery at the Center for New Music, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
About the Window Gallery
The Window Gallery at the Center for New Music presents the work of contemporary makers of unusual and newly invented musical instruments; both emerging artists and recognized pioneers. The emphasis is on originality in concept and design, recognizing the seminal role of the search for new sounds in the expansion of musical horizons. Equally essential to the exhibits are notions of beauty, craft, and humor.
