Satoko Fujii – piano
Todd Nicholson – bass
Yoshi Shutto – drums
Special guest Kappa Maki – trumpet

”With each new work Fujii’s musical vision matures and crystallizes so it is not by chance that Spring Storm is her most accomplished opus to date.” — Hrayr Attarian, All About Jazz

“Satoko Fujii’s New Trio has the edge and the confidence to become bigger than itself, especially if Fujii keeps writing the way she currently is. So here’s to one of 2013’s best releases.” — John Garratt, Pop Matters

“Fujii continues to explore the connections between composition and improvisation with enthralling melodies and make room for rounds of wild abandon. Her strong personality and muscular approach also means that the band can pack a punch. Fujii’s broad attack can generate an impressive ascending effect that contributes unquestionably to the group’s huge sound…” — Alain Drouot, DownBeat

Formed in 2012, The New Trio delivers the kind of powerful, challenging music we have come to expect from each new departure by Fujii. It’s a daring, exploratory band, whose members are disciplined, attentive and unafraid to move in any direction the music indicates. The music is by turns, lyrical and longing, percussive, powerfully expressive and vibrantly alive.

New trio has released Spring Storm (May 2013).
