Tucson, AZ based experimental project Ruehlen/Trejo Duo will be on their latest west coast tour in January ’25. Interdisciplinary artists Cecyl Ruehlen & Chelsey Lee Trejo perform long form compositions with expanded instruments focused around slowly unfolding harmonic variations, alternative tunings, and textural devotion that veers towards topos, or landscape, rather than song. Ruehlen will be utilizing his latest hand made sound object, a “hexachimeric drone” of resonating, multimodal strings and voicings, while Trejo works with a combination of custom crafted, bowed metal objects, synthesis, and voice. Their collaboration grows out of the traditions and present-edge of drone musics that spiral across desert communities throughout the world. Both artists are central performers and event/venue programmers within the Tucson underground/experimental music scene, working regularly with a variety of collaborators and projects.
Benjamin Rodgers and Zekarias Thompson started Agnes Martian in Oakland in 2019 as a weekly ritual of free form sonic exploration, drawing on friends from a wide variety of musical backgrounds for sprawling warehouse noise sessions. The project continually adapts to changing circumstances and moods, reflecting a collaborative and deconstructive approach to cosmic music-making.
