Symbiotic Instruments are a collection of resonant objects made by Roxanne Nesbitt and played by an ever-evolving group of musicians. The ceramic instruments are used both as percussion instruments and as preparations in the piano and on the drums. This version of the ensemble features Roxanne Nesbitt on piano and ceramics, and Ben Brown on ceramics and drums.
Ben Brown is a Juno-award winning drummer and creative collaborator known for his innovative approach to playing found objects and structures, music for dance and new instruments. Roxanne Nesbitt is a designer, composer and multi-instrumentalist. Both artists are based in Vancouver, Canada. Following a Symbiotic Instruments performance in Berlin an audience member commented, “I love how you played three instruments: the piano, the ceramic percussion and the in-between.” With Symbiotic Instruments we access a hybrid sound, existing between the recently invented and the traditional.
