Australian bass-clarinetist, Ros Dunlop, presents a program of audio-visual works by contemporary Aussie composers Margery Smith/Penelope Lee; Hollis Taylor; Felicity Wilcox; and Martin Wesley-Smith. These pieces explore the connections between sound, place, time and identity.
Ros Dunlop is an Australia clarinetist/bass clarinetist. She has been a strong advocate of new music for the clarinet & bass clarinet all her professional life. She has commissioned many Australian Composers and premiered many other new compositions by composers worldwide. As a recitalist Ros has performed throughout Australia, New Zealand , USA, Canada, the UK, Europe, Japan, Hong Kong and East Timor. Her solo CDs have received International acclaim. She has conducted masterclasses in many parts of the world. Ros is a founding member of the Chamber music trio Charisma, apart from concert activities Charisma is producing a double CD of contemporary Australian women composers, due for imminent release. In 2003 she embarked on an extensive project in East Timor, researching and recording its traditional music. The culmination of this material was the publication of the book; Lian Husi Klamar – Sounds of the Soul, which won several awards, including the Australian Government’s inaugural Arts in Asia awards for music and best multicultural book at the Independent Publisher Awards in New York, USA. She taught clarinet and composer/performer workshop at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music for 24 years and now works as a freelance musician, instrumental music teacher and senior examiner for the Australian Music Examination Board.
