Four Ninth Planet players come together to create an evening of improvisatory electroacoustic music with a new interpretation of Pauline Oliveros’ “Four Meditations for Orchestra.” We’ll be using Carl Testa’s interactive music system “Sway,” a live processing environment which responds in real time to the musicians’ output. In Oliveros’ work, the ensemble never plays in unison; the piece is composed entirely of short musical responses that involve listening and responding. As in real life, listening is just as important–if not more important–than talking.
