Gabby Fluke-Mogul, Jean Carla Rodea, Gerald Cleaver, Moe Staiano, & Las Sucias present an evening of solo, duo, and quartet performances!
First set is a solo set bu Gabby Fluke-Mogul, followed by a duo set by Jean Carla Rodea and Gerald Cleaver, then finally a quartet with electronic duo Las Sucias with drummer Moe Staiano and Gabby Fluke-Mogul.
Gabby Fluke-Mogul is a New York based violinist, improviser, composer, & educator who exists within the threads of improvisation, the jazz continuum, noise, & experimental music. Gabby is humbled to have collaborated with Nava Dunkelman, Joanna Mattrey, Fred Frith, Daniel Carter, Ava Mendoza, Jessica Pavone, Luke Stewart, Zeena Parkins, & Pauline Oliveros among many other musicians, poets, dancers, & visual artists.
Jean Carla Rodea is a research-based interdisciplinary artist and educator currently living between Brooklyn, NY and San Francisco, CA. Her/their work involves a variety of disciplines and mediums such as music, sound, poetry, vocal performance and performance art, photography, video, movement, and sculpture. Her artistic practice deals with spaces and instances where problematic socio-political and cultural constructs are rendered visible through multimedia installations and performance.
Gerald Cleaver is a jazz drummer from Detroit, Michigan. Cleaver joined the jazz faculty at the University of Michigan in 1995. He has performed or recorded with Joe Morris, Mat Maneri, Roscoe Mitchell, Miroslav Vitouš, Michael Formanek, Tomasz Stańko, Franck Amsallem and others. Cleaver currently leads the groups Uncle June, Black Host, Violet Hour and NiMbNl as well as working as a sideman with many different artists.
Moe Staiano is a musician and composer of new music works and angular rock music. Since 1995, he has been at the forefront of the Bay Area improvisation scene, playing drums and percussion through innovative solo shows that can feature prepared drum kit, found objects, audio looping and the inventive use of a “percussion guitar.” Moe’s compositional work has included music for large ensembles and works for smaller ensembles and field recordings of musique concreté sounds. He is currently active with his angular art rock project, Surplus 1980. He was a one time member of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.
Las Sucias is a duo formed by Danishta Rivero and Alexandra Buschman, mixing anti-patriarchal riotgrrrl lyrics, afro- caribbean rhythms, brujería noise and possessed vocals. Each performance is a ritual that combines all of the senses and elevates into a higher realm, inspiring the listener to dance, speak in tongues, laugh hysterically and get possessed by the spirits awoken.
