Major Arcana

Major Arcana is a personal exploration of the 22 trump cards of the tarot deck through electronic and acoustic arrangements, as well as lyrics, all created by SF composer and songwriter Derek Schmidt. For over five years, he’s been creating songs for each card, one by one, attempting to capture the layers of symbolism in each card, as well as what they mean to the songwriter personally. Having performed in various projects in the Bay Area for almost two decades, this is Derek Schmidt’s most ambitious project to date, a revelatory exploration into the the collective unconscious of the tarot.
