Music from UCSC grad students–including Ike Minton, Sarang Kim and Sanguk Kim–frame a culturally hybrid concert. A variety of Korean music will be presented, including “Samulnori” (Korean percussion music), the last three movements from “Youngsan-hoesang” (a suite, consisting of 9 movements), Hae-gum Sanjo (solo music for two-stringed fiddle). Our guest artist is Soo-Yeon LYUH, who is a member of the Creative Orchestra at the National Gugak Center, and is currently a visiting scholar at the Center for Korean Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
