Friction Quartet commissioned Brendon Randall-Myers and Adam Cuthbert to write new music. Brendon wrote Juiced – a study on temptation and addiction inspired by the film, Requiem for a Dream. Adam Cuthbert arranged his piece, Universe Explosion for double quartet and octave-dropped cello.
Vermont based composer, Bruce Hobson composed his string quartet in 2004 and Friction will give the west coast premiere of this brilliant nod to the second Viennese school.
Kronos Quartet commissioned Missy Mazzoli’s Harp and Altar for string quartet and electronics. The work is a rhythmically driven duet between string quartet and processed voice.
They will also give the west coast premiere of Belinda Reynolds’ Static Motion, a deeply personal and absolutely gorgeous string quartet commissioned by the Deer Valley Music Festival.
