Composer Charles Boone has been on the Bay Area new music scene since 1963. Orchestral works have been played by the San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, and so on. His catalog of percussion scores is large and the two works played tonight are the two most recent. Both call for techniques that are unusual for the instruments and these will be demonstrated and discussed. Garrett Mendelow has an extensive background in new music. His playing of scores by Iannis Xenakis and other modern composers is well documented on the internet. The event will be informal with opportunity for audience members to participate.
