C4NM is taken over by hooligans for one night to become the Center For New METAL John Angel and Brent Miller explore the dichotomy of concrete and abstract through the lens of HEAVY METAL. Angel presents a set of tunes fluent in the trends of today’s heavy metal and grounded in the blues roots of the genre. Miller deconstructs metal into its raw materials and recombines the pieces into a puzzle showcasing the process of transformation. The two will combine forces at the end of the show to find a middle ground between Angel’s concrete tunes and Miller’s abstract compositions that’s sure to get the crowd headbanging.

He has received grants from Zellerbach Family Foundation, Meet the Composer, Intermusic SF, and New Music USA to fund his work. He studied composition at the University of Arkansas with Robert Mueller and University of Missouri-Kansas City with James Mobberley and Paul Rudy.
Brent is active in the arts administration field founding and serving as Executive Director for Center for New Music in San Francisco, a work/performance space that supports creative music, and is a founding member of The Collected, a group dedicated to the advancement of new music.
John Angel (b. 1990) is a performer, composer, and music educator based in San Francisco, CA. John pursues his compositional muse through his projects Icepick to the Face, which sees him serving up high-octane metalcore music, and Fire at the Plantation House, an expansive and thoughtful take on heavy metal. When not melting faces, John shares his passion for music with others in his faculty role at Little Mission Studio in San Francisco. He also moonlights as an arts administrator with his role as the Marketing/Social Media Manager at the Center for New Music, in San Francisco, a work/performance space that supports creative music.
