The music of Apollo Soul blends a variety of styles into a unique, unified aesthetic, drawing from such diverse influences as early fusion, blues, funk, progressive rock, free music and jazz. The band is comprised of a mix of Bay Area and Los Angeles natives, including guitarist Matt Saunders, keyboardist Jack Bastian, bassist Cole Brossus and drummer Ellington Peet. Recently, the quartet has become deeply interested in the lineage of free and experimental music in California. Both Northern and Southern California have produced a wealth of boundary pushing musicians who are united in their efforts to expand their listener’s ears and explore untraditional performance practices. As California natives, the members of Apollo Soul hope to contribute to this storied tradition, especially in carefully crafted live performances.
The group recently released their sophomore album “The Many Faces of Apollo Soul” which can be heard on all streaming services or purchased here.
Joining Apollo Soul on July 1st is Someday, a group led by Bay Area bassist Chris Bastian, featuring music described as “California sun grown organic improvised music.”
