Alex Heigl presents a concert of original compositions augmented by historical images and recordings drawn from the Library of Congress’ collection “California Gold: Northern California Folk Music from the Thirties.”
Alex Heigl’s solo guitar work fuses the pre-war country blues style of fingerpicking and its inheritors like John Fahey with complex spatial effects and electronics like synthesizers and drum machines. For this performance, his original compositions will be performed alongside audio and visual items from the Works Progress Administration’s efforts to document the folk music of Northern California over 100 years ago.
