Hailed as a “soloist with impeccable taste,” and praised by audiences and composers for his “gorgeous, lyrical tone, spectacular technique, and heartfelt musicality …” for presenting “the soprano saxophone at the height of its beauty,” Jacob Swanson has performed throughout North America and Europe on concert series, television, and radio. Swanson performs regularly as a member of the Decho Ensemble, which he co-founded in 2011 with long-time collaborator Sarah Marchitelli. In August 2016 Swanson participated in a residency as member of the Decho Ensemble as guest of the NyMusikks Komponistgruppe in Oslo, Norway and in 2019 held residencies at Mercyhurst University and Idaho University in Moscow. Swanson also performs as a member of the Megalopolis Saxophone Orchestra.
Swanson’s spring 2020 tour, wired. – in concert, features acoustic/electric works for saxophones. In 2017 Swanson released wired. which featured eight works by composers writing for saxophone and electronics – most of which were dedicated to Swanson. The collection includes highly varied forms of tape pieces and works with interactive media using soundscapes of prerecorded instruments, voice, digitally produced tones, sign waves, and manipulated/processed acoustic sounds. American-composers John C. L. Jansen, Ruby Fulton, Jared Yackiw, and Tim Bausch contributed works to the project and will be featured on this recital. Swanson will also perform Frank Zabel’s Echoes of Light and Tritan Keuris’ Canzone.
