Internationally acclaimed bass-baritone Jóhann Schram Reed makes his Center for New Music debut with this concert of 20th- and 21st-century American vocal music, joined by pianist Taylor Chan. The centerpiece of the program is the world premiere of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, a song cycle written for him by San Francisco composer and C4NM member Patricia Wallinga. This sweeping, darkly confessional song cycle sets the T.S. Eliot epic of the same name, grappling with themes of loneliness, insecurity, and fear. The program also features David Conte’s exuberant 2003 cycle Everyone Sang and other selections from the 20th and 21st century American art song repertoire.
