Phillip Greenlief (reeds) and Claudia La Rocco (text, voice) are animals & giraffes, an interdisciplinary container for improvisation on and off the page. JULY, a&g’s first album, was released by Edgetone Records in 2017, and the group is the Center for New Music’s current ensemble in residence. For this concert, Greenlief and La Rocco join forces with Los Angeles artists Jmy James Kidd, a dancer, choreographer, and costume designer; and Tara Jane ONeil, a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and visual artist. This marks the first time all four have improvised together.
