memories in gray stitches together works for saxophone with and without electronics from the 21st century. In works by Lei Liang, Kati Agócs, David Reminick, Stefano Gervasoni, and Javier Quislant, saxophonist Phil Pierick obscures the lines between silence and sound, real and imagined, and gray and in color.
A staunch advocate for new music, saxophonist Phil Pierick has commissioned more than 25 new solo and chamber works and presented over 60 premieres in France, Germany, Austria, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United States. Recent recording projects include an entry in the Stockhausen Verlag’s complete discography of Karlheinz Stockhausen and Invisible Seams, an album of new works composed for his saxophone duo, Ogni Suono. Since 2010, Ogni Suono has performed and taught throughout North America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and in Europe. The duo’s current project, SaxoVoce, synthesizes voice and saxophone in a show that is clamorous, funny, political, and everything in between.
The only saxophonist to receive prizes at both the Jean-Marie Londeix International Saxophone Competition (2014) and the ISSAC International Saxophone Competition (2012), Phil is also a three-time prizewinner at the MTNA National Young Artist and Chamber Music Competitions (2009, 2011, 2012), and was named Vandoren Emerging Artist of 2011.
