Pamela Z and Annë Paiounèn Duo Performance

Pamela Z (San Francisco) and Annë Paiounèn (Stockholm) will perform an evening of solos and duets for voices, electronics, viola, video, and objects. Together they will inhabit the Center for New Music, playing site-specifically with the physical attributes of the place, and finding curious intersections between their individual sonic and performance practices.
Pamela Z is a composer/performer and media artist who works primarily with voice, live electronic processing, sampled sound, and video. A pioneer of live digital looping techniques, she processes her voice in real time to create dense, complex sonic layers. Her solo works combine experimental extended vocal techniques, operatic bel canto, found objects, text, and sampled concrète sounds. She uses custom MIDI controllers that allow her to manipulate sound and image with physical gestures, and her compositional techniques often involve sampling, sculpting, and layering of speech sounds.
Annë Paiounèn is a multivoiced singer and performer with one foot in contemporary music, the other one in music theatre and performance art. She has created her own world of staged performances with vocal and instrumental music. Working with all aspects of a performance, set design, costumes etc, she strives for a strong visual expression along with music, sound and words. The performances are often based on interaction with the audience, or experimenting with memory games and reactions in a live situation.
