The Peter Kuhn Trio has developed a musical dialectic that results in profoundly beautiful and deeply spiritual collective composition. They have been performing together for years in Southern California and is now celebrate their new CD “”The Other Shore”” on NoBusiness records. Peter, best known for his work on Bb and bass clarinets, made a name for himself in the NYC Loft scene with albums on Hat Hut, Soul Note and his own Big City records. He has performed and recorded with Lester Bowie, William Parker, Frank Lowe, Toshinori Kondo and Billy Bang among others. After a decades long hiatus from performing he has made a critically acclaimed come back and returns as an ordained Zen Priest with decades of recovery from addiction. The other members of the trio are Nathan Hubbard, a prolific composer and master percussionist. Perhaps best known for his work with Cosmologic he transcends idiom creating a wide range of astonishing music in multiple ensembles as band leader. His “”Encinitas Suite”” won jazz album of the year 2015 from San Diego Music Awards and his new Skeleton Key Orchestra release may well do the same this year. Kyle Motl on bass has performed and recorded with Abbey Rader, Wadada Leo Smith, Anthony Davis, Roscoe Mitchell and Kidd Jordan to name a few and is just back from a South American tour. He is an astonishing musician and composer in his own right.
For this concert they will be joined by Eddie Gale, a legendary performer and community activist who has played and recorded with John Coltrane, Cecil Taylor and Sun Ra to name a few, in addition to his prolific work as leader on Blue Note and other labels. Peter and Eddie have played together in numerous musical settings in California and NYC since they met in the 70’s. They share a profound vision for world peace and spiritual awakening through musical healing.
