Chamber Cartel embarks on their first cross-country tour, Play, to find their inner child. We have chosen seven pieces by composers that appeal to our inner child. Our program includes
…But I’m Doing it Anyway by Aaron Jay Myers
Karakurenai b Andy Akiho
Toy Toccata by Fabian Svensson
A new piece written for this tour by Christopher Adler
What I Cannot Say by Aaron Michael Butler
Loops II by Philippe Hurel
Pattycake by Sean Griffin
…But I’m Doing it Anyway weaves it’s way in and out of sync. The players are almost independent of one another but always together in the moment. Karakurenai translates roughly as “crimson” from Japanese. The percussionist subtly plays with the texture and color of the piece. Toy Toccata by Fabian Svensson reflects our inner child’s rebellious nature against it’s own inherent cuteness and innocence. Aaron Michael Butler’s What I Cannot Say brings that nostalgic feeling back to us that we all have for our childhood in some way. Loops II celebrates the joy of playing; the reason we started playing in the first place. Pattycake by Sean Griffin takes a deeper look at the game we used to play in the schoolyard. Sometimes we must go back there to move forward.
