Ladies who Lieder

Monica Chew, pianist and composer, and Jamie Lee, soprano, present performances of lieder by Chew, Bartok, Wagner, and Strauss. Monica’s song cycle, “An ordinary woman,” feature texts from women poets. In addition, we will perform Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder (1857-1858), Richard Strauss’s 4 last songs (1948), and Bartok’s rarely-heard 5 Songs op. 16 (1916). These art songs span multiple eras with common themes of love and mortality.
