Spring 2017 will mark the full premiere of Mobius Trio, Aaron Gervais, and Here Now Dance Collective’s evening-length production, Prescription Drug Nation, but on June 17, the public can catch the premiere performance of the first three musical movements: Adderall, Ambien, and Xanax. A musical exploration of the effects and side-effects of the United States most popular (and sometimes controversial) prescription drugs, PDN uses the Mobians on a variety of instruments (classical, steel string, and electric guitars) to simulate the mental, emotional, and physical sensations that a user of these drugs might experience.
Paired with PDN is acclaimed Sardinian composer and scholar Luciano Chessa’s newest work, Blind Date. Based on a story of gay pulp fiction author/icon Victor Banis’s experience with an FBI agent, Blind Date explores themes of surveillance, paranoia, and coffee, and it uses an exceptional battery of musical, theatrical, and performance art techniques to do so.
