Addleds – the brutally minimal improvising quartet of Kyle Bruckmann (oboe/English horn), Tony Dryer (contrabass), Jacob Felix Heule (percussion), and Kanoko Nishi (koto) – explores counterintuitive cross-genre collaboration in a mini-series supported by the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music’s Musical Grant Program. Night 1 is a cassette release party featuring the theatrically surrealist noise of bran(…)pos and the immersive and disorienting microsound of Horaflora. A short set by each group will be followed by an improvised ‘first meeting’ of a subset of the musicians.
Horaflora is the main recording and performance moniker of Raub Roy. Horaflora’s works (live and recorded both) deal with explorations of articulated space, psychoacoustics, and pushing the limits of depth and detail in perception. Based in Oakland, CA, Roy studied sound art and studio technique with Daniel Warner and Christoph Cox at Hampshire College, and continues to study specialized aspects of his practice such as experiments in microsound, field recording, and new modes of listening.

bran(…)pos is the ongoing audio-visual-performance-noise-musique-brain-bend of Jake Rodriguez from San Francisco, CA. Rodriguez has been performing and recording under this moniker for 15 years with releases on C.I.P., Resipiscent, Ratskin Records, Animal Disguise, and Chitah! Chitah! Soundcrack. synthesizer and mouth manipulations are the most common audio elements, rounded out with rubber face and a live video component to complete the human-analog-digital-human circle. in March 2011, two bran(…)pos releases were on display at the Editions of You fair in Oxford, UK and added to the Oxford Brookes University Popular Music Research Unit’s permanent collection of hand-made editions and zines. more info, sounds, photo, video can be found at soundcrack.net http://soundcrack.net . “With a background in theater performance and sound (and a seriously demented mind), Rodriguez with his bran(…)pos project has boiled down the most absurd elements of our ongoing ritual into an amalgamation of human, sound, and light that is at once ridiculous and terrifying.”
Addleds explores timbral and textural extremes of distended instrumental technique via improvisation and open-ended compositional strategies. Their music tends towards a brutalist minimalism as informed by the noise underground as by recent developments in the field of free improvisation.
Individually, the members have performed with other groups and regular collaborators across the gamut of new music both local (Basshaters, Ettrick, Ghost in the House, Jacob Lindsay, Pink Mountain, Jon Raskin, Gino Robair, Aram Shelton, Shudder, sfSound) and elsewhere (Michel Doneda, EKG, Boris Hauf, Giuseppe Ielasi, Lozenge, Polwechsel, Jack Wright, C Spencer Yeh). Since they began developing their collective sound in 2010, they have performed at the Switchboard Music Festival and many of the area’s improvised music series. Their debut album is a 2013 cassette release on Weird Ear.
