The A/B Duo returns to the Center for New Music to premiere new works for flute and percussion. The Civic Center Blog described A/B Duo’s last San Francisco show as “bouncy, strange, interesting, and fun.” This time the duo will premiere two works for contrabass flute and percussion by Andrea La Rose and Ned McGowan. Also on the program are works of varying styles by Ian Dicke, Drew Baker, and Zack Browning.
The bi-coastal A/B Duo (percussionist Christopher G. Jones from Rochester, NY and flutist Meerenai Shim from Campbell, CA) is committed to performing a variety of fun, intense, and thought-provoking new works. Most of these compositions have been recently written for the A/B Duo and vary wildly in style and instrumentation from djembe and contrabass flute to Nintendo Gameboy and drum set.
Formed in Chicago, A/B Duo has been touring and commissioning new works since 2012. During the 2013-2016 seasons, A/B Duo will proudly premiere 15 freshly commissioned works from Drew Baker, Zack Browning, Brooks Frederickson, Olivia Kieffer, Andrea La Rose, Jenna Lyle, Ned McGowan, Carolyn O’Brien, Matthew Joseph Payne, Brendon Randall-Myers, Ryan Ross Smith, Alan Theisen, Ivan Trevino, Francisco Castillo Trigueros, and Ken Ueno.
A/B Duo’s first recording project is a rock and roll and Gameboy infused EP of compositions by Ivan Trevino and Matthew Joseph Payne. “Things We Dream About” was released in December 2013.
This concert is made possible through the Musical Grant Program, which is administered by the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music, and supported by the Heller Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation, the San Francisco Foundation and Grants for the Arts|San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund.
