“…mysterious, complexly textured improvisations that sometimes take shape as the aural equivalent of abstract expressionist paintings, whether the ethereal, mystical canvasses of Mark Rothko or the jittery, splatter techniques of Jackson Pollock.”
— Derk Richardson, KPFA radio host and music critic
duo B., the improvising and composing ensemble of Berlin-based percussionist Jason Levis and Bay Area bassist Lisa Mezzacappa, celebrates its 10-year anniversary in a special concert of mixed ensembles at the Center for New Music. The evening includes duos, trios and quintet chamber works by Mezzacappa and Levis, with superlative Bay Area instrumentalists Cory Wright (clarinets), Rob Ewing (trombone) and John Finkbeiner (guitar).
Levis and Mezzacappa are also joined by guitarist Noah Phillips for two live film scores, San Francisco filmmaker Mark Wilson’s Postmark Tokyo (left), and Berlin filmmaker Sylvia Schedelbauer’s Sounding Silence.
