Meeting our current remix culture head on with a classical twist, London music and math professor Elaine Chew premieres contemporary piano pieces by Cheryl Frances-Hoad; Elaine Chew, Peter Child, Lina Viste Grønli; and the computer program MorpheuS. Works that steal unabashedly from Haydn's Sonata in Eb, Hob XVI:45 Finale. As our inaugural PRISM series artist, Elaine will also engage in visual discourse about the science and technology behind the performances and compositions.

One of New York’s preeminent new music pianists/composers, Eleonor Sandresky brings us the West Coast Premiere of her evening-length work, The Wonder Suit Show: A Space Odyssey. Using live piano, NASA space recordings, and her invention, The Wonder Suit - a wearable, remote sensor interface integrating live electronics with the pianist’s movements - her performance transports the audience to outer space. Fresh from the world premiere in Los Angeles, composer-performer Nicholas Chase and renowned violinist Robin Lorentz bring "Bhajan," a free-wheeling yet meditative four-movement work for electric violin and live electronics. As part of the Center for New Music’s PRISM series, the Northern California premiere of the performance will be followed by a Q&A with the artists focused on their creative journey to this “pas de deux between violin and electronics” (Textura). Immerse yourself in an insect-filled, summer soundscape, produced by traditional and extended vocal techniques. Text scores for the work will be displayed within distinct sculptures throughout the performance space.
